Common Divorce Risks Everyone Should Recognize

Do you want to save your marriage? Maybe you just want some insight as to why your or other marriages around you are failing, one by one. A recent article identifies some of the common risk factors that naturally lead to divorce:

1.) Lack of support

Marriage generally means that you and your spouse have agreed to spend your lives together. Your lives are filled with unique goals, dreams, ideologies and interests. If you cannot support each other's individual lives, then making it to forever together will be an unruly task. Marriage is a choice, a choice ideally made because you and your spouse plan on encouraging each other's desired life paths. When that does not happen, it is no surprise that one, if not both, in the marriage want out. And perhaps a divorce in that case is for the best.

2.) Salary and career differences

If one spouse makes more money than the other then it sometimes means much more than mere differences in pay. Depending on the couple and what they are comfortable with, earning inequalities in a marriage can cause serious conflict. A spouse who earns more sometimes is the spouse who works more hours or works harder.

Maybe he or she does not work harder but still makes more than their spouse and wishes that they could contribute more to the household finances. Perhaps the resentment comes from the other side, and the lesser-earning spouse is jealous that they do not make more money. Whatever the case, earning inequalities can create resentment within a marriage.

There are certain things that every couple should discuss before marriage. Career and life goals are examples of those topics. Those discussions then bring up how each person envisions the upbringing of their children. If one person expects that one spouse will stay at home to raise kids, then they better make sure that their spouse wants the same.

Marriage is already full of surprises. To prevent your marriage from ending in divorce, it is important to enter into it as prepared as possible. Your life dreams and visions of your future should be what bring you and your spouse together, not what tear you apart.
